"Bernard Clarence Mattingly, 90, of St. Francis, died at 2:45 p.m., Feb. 16 at his residence. Mr. Mattingly, a native of the Gleanings community, was a retired guard at J. W. Dant Distillery at Gethsemane, a veteran of World War I. He was preceded in death by his parents George Thomas and Susan Maggie Holtshouser Mattingly and a son John Richard Mattingly. Survivors include: his wife, Mary Edna Nevitt Mattingly; three daughters, Mrs. Mary Dell Wilson and Mrs. Mary Aline Wilson of Louisville and Mrs. Anniebell Thomas of Loretto; two sons, Thomas Gatton Mattingly of Louisville and Dennis Cleveland Mattingly of St. Francis; two sisters, Mrs. Winnie Woods of New Hope and Mrs. Octavia Lucas of New Haven; 23 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson. Funeral services were conducted at 10:00 a.m., Feb. 19, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. David W. Denneler officiated. Pallbearers were grandsons: J. R., Darrell, Dennis, Gary and Mike Mattingly and Larry Thomas. A prayer service was held at 7 p.m., Feb. 18, at the funeral home, Mattingly Funeral Home, Loretto, was in charge of the arrangements. Buried in St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery, St. Francis, Ky; Cemetery 3; Lot 30; Grave 8.
