"Injuries sustained in a fall at her home last Thursday proved fatal to Mrs. Susan Maggie Holhouser Mattingly, 80, of Dant, widow of George Mattingly. Suffering from a fractured hip, she was taken to Flaget Memorial Hospital at Bardstown, where she died Friday afternoon at 12:30 as the broken bone was about to be set. Death was pronounced due to coronary embolism. Mrs. Mattingly was born and reared at Dant, a daughter of Marion and Mary Bethenia Greenwell Holthouser. Her husband preceded her to the grave about five years ago. Seven children survive, Bernard C. Mattingly of Dant, Johnnie and Artie Mattingly of Louisville, Mrs. Henry Lucas and Mrs. Winnie Woods, all of New Hope: Francis Earl Mattingly of Louisville, and Miss Mary Ada Mattingly of Bardstown. One sister, Mrs. Alice Mattingly of St. Francis, survives. There are 33 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren. The remains were taken to the Mattingly Funeral Home at Loretto and later were taken to the home of her son Artie Mattingly, at New Hope. Funeral services were conducted at 9 o'clock Monday morning at St. Francis of Assisi Church by the pastor, Rev. John Talbott Spalding. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Marty, Clyde, Gatton and Donald Mattingly, and Tony and Harold Lucas. Buried in St. Francis Assisi Cemetery, St. Francis, Ky. Cemetery 2; Section 20.
