William Durrant was born to James Durrant and Elizabeth Spooner, 17 July 1814 in Bradwell, Buskingham, England. They later moved to Northampton, England. He was the 4th of six children.
He married Phebe Hoar, 3 August 1835 in Passenham, Northampton, England. They had 11 children, four of whom died either in infancy or youth. Latter-day Saint Missionaries converted them to the LDS Church and William and Phebe were both baptized, 23 April 1850. They taught the gospel to their children and eventually all of them were baptized. They had great faith, perseverance, and love for the gospel. They were determined to get their entire family to America and to Utah, and in doing so, they encountered many hardships and heartaches, for they had to send one or two at a time, as they slowly saved enough money to buy each ticket.
William and Phebe sent their daughter Jane first, since she was not married, and was very trustworthy, and wanted her to help prepare things here for the arrival of the others who would come later.
Finally, 21 yrs after their baptism into the church, they had enough money to come to Utah themselves. William and Phebe left England 10 May 1871, on the ship "Wyoming", with their 3 youngest children, Emma, Lorenzo, and Lovina. Only James, their oldest con, was left behind. He had a wife and family , and couldn't leave at that time. His wife was a frail woman, and died 3 yrs later. Then, James was presuaded to join the other members of his family here in Utah, so he brought his 5 living children and the settled in Morgan County also.
When William and Phebe Durrant first arrived in Utah, by railroad, just completed on July 1871, they stayed a few months in Salt Lake City, then moved to Morgan, Morgan county, Utah in October. A few hours after their arrival in Morgan, their daughter, Emma, passed away, after suffering a long time from comsumption (tuberculosis). She has been very ill when they left England and the ship's captain told them she would never arrive in New York alive, but Phebe's and Emma's great faith never wavered and Emma lived to see her beloved brothers and sisters once again. She was buried in the Porterville Cemetery.
William and Phebe lived in Morgan for more than 20 yrs until they passed away. They are both buried in the Morgan Cemetery.
