Ruth V. Benson, 98, formerly of 400 Walnut Street, died at noon, Wednesday, December 13, 1995, at Heartland Health Care Center in Henry, IL, where she had resided the past three years.
Born August 14, 1897, in rural Varna to Nels John and Mary Anna Lundgren Austin, she married George Ed Benson on October 23, 1926, in Varna. He died January 29, 1993. She also was preceded in death by one sister and four brothers.
Surviving are one son, Richard A. Benson of Batavia, IL; one daughter, Mrs. John (Shirley) Schou of Rockford, IL; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Melvin Austin of San Jose, CA; and one niece.
She was a homemaker. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Varna, IL, its Dorcas Circle and WELCA. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at her church, where visitation will be two hours before services. The Rev. Lane Knouse will officiate. Burial will be in First Lutheran Cemetery # 2, in rural Varna. Varna Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
