William was the fifth child born to Henry & Minnie Spulick. He was born on their farm in Maine and grew up around Durham. He and his brothers worked construction for a few years. He married Violet Georgia Greenwood in 1926 and shortly following their marriage, they moved to Connecticut. There William worked on a farm for awhile, but eventually they returned to Maine. Together, they raised eight children. Prior to his retirement he worked at the Saco-Lowell Shops and in a lumberyard.
He and his brother, Herman, were born on the same day, 3 years apart, and two of his 26 grandchildren also share his birthday.
