Winnie Shirley Davis Candler, 91, widow of Julius H. Candler, formerly of Lockhart, died Thursday, May 26, 2005 in White Oak Manor in Spartanburg.
Mrs. Candler was born in Converse on March 10, 1914, a daughter of the late E.P. Davis and Corrie Elizabeth Pryor Davis. She was a member of Lockhart Free Will Baptist Church and was retired from Milliken & Company, Lockhart Plant.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Surviving are four sons, Denver Candler and wife Joyce, Howard Candler and wife Frances and Cecil Candler and wife Maxine all of Union and Vester Candler and wife Ruth of Spartanburg; a daughter, Julia Candler Bobo and husband Jimmy of Spartanburg; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by three grandchildren, Mark Candler, Jimmy Donald Bobo and Joshua Michael Candler.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by he Rev. Joe Geddas and the Rev. Calvin Smith. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be Joel Michael Candler, Jamie Bobo, Eddie Vess, Roger Bailey, Keith Candler and J.W. Bobo.
The following are asked to assembly at the funeral chapel Saturday at 10:45 a.m. to form the honorary escort: Joey Candler, George Candler, Terry Candler, David Kitchens, Brian Candler, Harold "Bud" Cookson and Curtis "Red" Walker Jr..
The family is at their respective homes and will receive friends at Union Memorial Gardens immediately following the services.
Memorials may be made to the Dependent Christian School, P.O. Box 934, Inman, S.C. 29349.
