Mary Josephine Walsh was born in Castlebar, County Mayo, EIRE on May 1, 1895 to Patrick Walsh and Mary Loftus. Mary had four other siblings including Honor (Nora), Thomas, Anna and Bridget. Looking for a better life Mary immigrated to the United States in May of 1914 aboard the White Star liner "Baltic." Passing through Ellis Island she took up residence with her Aunt Anna Kelly in Manhattan. She worked various jobs until 1923 when she met a handsome Texan by the name of Carlton Howard Bedford. Once married they settled down in The Bronx where she and Carlton had six children including Lorrayne, Ruby, Elaine, Howard, Joan and Pat. In 1967 Mary Josephine returned once more to her native EIRE where she visited her old homestead and family.
Mary's husband Carlton passed on in 1967 and soon after Mary moved into the home of her son Howard Carlton. Mary lived until a few months shy of her 90th birthday. She is buried with her husband Carlton in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Valhalla, New York.
