Ruby was the daughter of Howard and Mary Bedford and sister of Lorrayne, Howard Jr., Elaine, Joan and Patricia Bedford.
Ruby attended P.S. 72 in Throggs Neck, Bronx, NY until the 6th grade, and was selected to attend rapid advancement classes at Herman Ridder Junior High School, enabling her to skip one whole year of elementary school. Upon graduating, she attended and graduated from Christopher Columbus High School.
Ruby had a responsible position working as a Traffic Clerk for the Dep't of Agriculture during WW II, tracing railroad shipments destined for overseas shipment to our allies.
She married Eugene (Gene) DeLong July 15, 1946 and they had three children:
