Funeral Services will be Thursday, November 17, 2011 at 10:00 AM at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Crowley, La. for Ms. Eula A. Sonnier, 86, who passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at 4:28 AM at the home of her daughter in Egan, La. Fr. Gary will be officiating for the services.
Survivors include one daughter, Kathleen and husband, Alvin Thibodeaux of Egan; four sons, Nelson and wife, Mamie Sonnier of Crowley, Vernice and wife, Debbie Sonnier of Springs, TX, Jimmy Sonnier of Crowley and Michael and wife, Missy Sonnier of Egan; seven grandchildren, Veronica S. Stroble, James LaCombe, Jr., Bradley Sonnier, Amber Nicole Thibodeaux, Frankie Thibodeaux, Addie Sonnier and Myles Sonnier; three great-grandchildren, Mary Beth, Adam and Valerie Stroble; one brother, Mason Abshire of Hamphill, Tx; four sisters, Eva Cormier, Euna Mouton, Elgine Toney and Elvie Hanks all of Crolwey.
Ms. Eula was preceded in death by her husband, Obray Sonnier; two sons, Norris and Ernest Sonnier; her parents, Clarence and Olivia Guidry Abshire; three brothers, Bernice, Lawrence and Leonard Abshire, Sr.; three sisters, Willa Mae Abshire Simon, Mable Abshire Matthews and Eunice Abshire Thevis.
Pallbearers for the service will be Bradley Sonnier, Frankie Thibodeaux, Myles Sonnier, James LaCombe, Jr., Norris Matthews and Billy Smith. Her honorary pallbearers will be, Nelson, Vernice, Jimmy and Michael Sonnier.
Ms. Sonnier was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved cooking and caring for her family. She was a very family oriented person. She worked as a cook in local café's owned by her sisters. Also she enjoyed going fishing at her sister's camps. She loved to Cajun dance. Her pass time was to go to bingo and casinos. She will be sadly missed by family and friends.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Dr. Saini and the staff at American Legion Hospital, The Crowley Rehab Hospital, Professional Home Healthcare Services and Hospice of Acadiana.
Visitation will be Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at 11:00 AM until 10:00 PM then 8:00 AM until the time of services on Thursday. A Rosary will be recited at 6:00 in the evening Wednesday in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Abshire Cemetery under the directions of Duhon Funeral Home, L.L.C. of Crowley.
