Visitation will be held on Friday, May 16, 2014 from 9:00 A.M. until 10:30 A.M. in Duhon Funeral Home, Crowley, with a rosary being recited at 10:00 A.M. in the funeral home.
Mrs. Cormier passed away on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at 1:50 P.M. in a Jennings hospital.
A native of Lyons Point, Mrs. Cormier was a lifelong resident of the Crowley area. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
As a young woman, Mrs. Cormier worked at Grace's Café in Crowley, which she later bought and operated as Eva's Cafe. She later operated Eva's Café at Dominic's Stockyards in Carencro and Opelousas, where she worked until she was eighty years old. Mrs. Cormier enjoyed playing BINGO, going to the casinos, and eating fried foods.
Survivors include her son, Doris Joseph Cormier of Westlake; sisters, Una Mouton of Westlake, and Elgine Toney of Crowley; brother, Mason Abshire of Beaumont, TX; grandchildren, Markus James Cormier of New Orleans, Kerry Cormier of Crowley, and Nicole Cormier of Meaux; and great-grandchild, Dawson Trahan.
Preceding Mrs. Cormier in death were her husband, Martin Cormier; parents, Clarence and Olivia Guidry Abshire; son, Tommy Cormier; sisters, Mable Matthews, Willa Mae Simon, Eunice Thevis, Eula Sonnier, and Elvie Hanks; and brothers, Lawrence Abshire, Leonard Abshire, and Bernice Abshire.
