The will of Harrison C. Rea, admitted to probate yesterday, in Philadelphia, directs $8,000 be given to the Hopewell Cemetery, East Brandywine, for a memorial gateway and vault. Mr. Rea, a building contractor, died June, 22, at 100 E. Sedgwick St., Philadelphia, leaving an estate worth over $220,000. The principal legatees are his widow, Harriett E. Rea, and their children, nephews and nieces.
Hopewell Church is one of the most remarkable in this county, being a magnificent grey stone structure erected in the open country, with nothing near it except the cemetery, a district school and a few dwellings, then the farms. It is well attended and supported, and here the recent centenary celebration was held in Memory of T. Buchanan Read, who was born a mile away at Corner Ketch or Washington Square.
Daily Local News, July 6, 1922
The generous bequest of the late Harrison Rea is much appreciated by Hopewell Church people. Mr. Rea willed the sum of $8,000 to be used in building a vault and a gateway to the cemetery. The vault will meet a long felt need and the gateway at the entrance will be an improvement to the cemetery.
