May 1971 - New cemetery announced in Mason City Globe Gazette.
Advertised as - The only cemetery of its kind this side of California!! The newest concept in cemetery design - beautiful above ground burials in a peaceful setting of shrubs and flower gardens.
September 1971 - Ground broken for the proposed site of the eight outdoor crypt gardens.
Crypts were to be built in large rectangles above ground, the sides were to be brick or stone and the tops to be grass covered.
November 1973 - Construction starts on a 70 x 130 foot mortuary complex. It was proposed to house a crematory, intorium, mortuarium, offices and 300 capacity chapel. The 25 acre site when complete was to hold 22 outdoor and garden crypts on top of the indoor facilities.
January 1976 - A district court judge awarded a Garner, IA contracting firm "right of collection" for payment totalling $139,517.98 in a defaulted judgment against the owners of Forest Lawn Memory Garden, Clear Lake.
July 1977 - letter to editor notes the unkempt appearance of Forest Lawn Memory Garden, calling it a dump at one end and a swamp at the other.
August 1979 - seven burials moved on one day to Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery in Mason City, IA. All other interments were moved to Memorial Park Cemetery, Clear Lake Cemetery and various other cemeteries.
