"By far the most notable feature of the cemetery is Chapel Garden Mausoleum and Amphitheater.
At one time, Sherwood claimed to be the only cemetery in the United States with an outdoor theater, a record which may still be true. The Amphitheater was the dream of James R. Goodwin, one of Sherwood's founders and the man who guided the park for years. In the 1930s he came up with the idea of an outdoor venue at Sherwood that could be used for religious services or functions. But it was not until 1953, that outdoor drama in a cemetery made its debut."
