In 1869, Henry Dennis donated land for the purpose of erecting a church building which was located on the northwest corner of Section 33 and what was later platted as "Block 8" in Shumway. This was the church we see in this photograph, the German Methodist Episcopal Church of Shumway. in 1944 when lightning struck the church steeple, it was taken down and a different roof was erected.
