Daugherty Cemetery was the first Catholic cemetery in Beaver County. The land was given by Edward Daugherty for Catholic burials upon the death of his brother in 1801. It was transferred to the sponsor parish, St Peter and Paul's of Beaver, in 1832.
Two of the first Catholic settlers in this part of western Pennsylvania were brothers Edward and John Daugherty. Shortly after the arrival of John, he was joined by his brother Mannasseh Daugherty and John Black, a Protestant, whose children later became Catholics. During the construction of John Black's log barn, Mannesseh, who was helping his neighbor with the construction, was killed by timber falling on him. His brother, Edward Daugherty, buried him in a plot on his farm, which he set aside and donated to the Catholics as a burying ground.
