History Of Cryder Family Cemetery
Philip and Rebecca Cryder were early settlers in Gallagher Township. They were living there with their children on the 1850 census. Three of their children were buried on a hill on the old homestead farm in the mid-1800s. Philip's father, William Cryder moved into Gallagher Township from Pine Creek in 1845 with his family. William Cryder was 87 years old in 1883 when John Blair Linn's "History Of Centre and Clinton Counties" was published in 1883.
Directions to Cryder Family Cemetery
From the intersection of Jay and Water Streets in Lock Haven, PA, travel over the bridge to Lockport. Turn right at the end of the bridge onto Route 664, and travel a total of approximately 18 miles. Turn left onto Old Carrier Road and travel 0.9 mile. The cemetery is on your left, on the knob of a hill in the woods, about 50 yards off the road. It cannot be seen from the roads, and you must walk up to the top of the hill, and a short distance to the east end of the ridge to the gravesites. The gravesites are in good repair. The area, however, is heavily wooded, on private property owned by Jersey Shore & Mainsburg Hunting Camp, and conditions are ripe for timber rattlesnakes. Visitors are encouraged to wait until after the first frosts to visit the cemetery, and to be cautious of stray bullets during hunting season. It is advised to contact the owners of private property before crossing it. NOTE: This was written in 2007.
