Buchanan-Crews Cemetery
Lawrence County, Tennessee, USA
Location: Go West on Highway #64 from Lawrenceburg to the farm now owned by O. L. North, which was long known as the "Old Crews' Place".
The house on the farm is one of the oldest in the area. The upper portion was blown off in a storm several years ago (from 1966). This land was purchased by the Crews from the Buchanan's, who were among the earliest. settlers in the County. The Buchanans' later moved to Mississippi.
We (authors of "At Rest") believe the cemetery was started as a family graveyard and it is located about 300 feet East of the house. The cemetery is completely overgrown and a tangle of weeds and vines. We were informed that there had been many burials of the Crews family in this plot, but that some of them had been moved to other burial grounds. We found several unmarked graves, some with only fieldstones, and one or two broken tombstones which might have had markings at one time. The old house which stands on the farm was built in 1843.
Like I [CWA] say none of the above exist today only a private rock crusher company. Conclusion drawn from research. I have not been here. [CWA]
The burial information in this cemetery was taken from W.P.A. Records, Lawrence County, Tenn. "Old Bible Records",
State Library, Nashville, Tenn. As Listed in the book "At Rest" by Irene M. Alexander & Carrie H. Gresham 8 Feb 1966.
