Old Orange Grove Church Cemetery
Also known as Myers Cemetery
Lowndes County, Georgia, USA
On land owned by J.B. Cowart in the 1990s.
From the junction of Shiloh Road and Snake Nation 3.3 miles. Almost directly across from New Road (On the right). Go down a wide dirt path approximately 0.3 miles, bearing to the left. There is an electric fence around a large field on the right. Cemetery in this field, about 200 years to the right, surrounded by an old wire fence. The only markers ever used had been heart pine and they are all gone now, but 25 to 30 graves.
According to Charlie Harris, the last burial was around 1910. The coffin was carried on a wagon right over a field of young pine trees. This account appears to be inaccurate.
Seen as Will Cemetery in some death certificates from the 1920s.
Seen as Orange Grove in the 1930s.
The land was deeded to Orange Grove Free Will Baptist Church on 1 December 1922 from Mrs. Emma Hall, John D Hall, J A Powers, and W S Smithie, trustees of the church.
The land is part of LL 129, 148. LD 12.
James D. Shanks sold LL 148. LD 12. to Michael Myers on 2 January 1855. LL 148 belonged to Mrs. Winnaford Sapp Myers in 1870. LL 129. LD 12. belonged to David P Myers and Remer N Myers in 1890.
