This cemetery is located on private property owned by the Brown family. This is a single burial site at this time. This site came in to existence in 1986 when Mrs. Martha Ana Barnes Brown passed away. Mrs. Martha Brown was born on February 18, 1925 and lived all of her life in Pasco County and grew up on the very property she now rests. Martha Barnes Brown is a descendant of Reuben Barnes.
Reuben Barnes was born to Asbury Frances and Margaret Anna (Geiger) Barnes all of which resided at the Geiger Cemetery. This family's history is rooted deep in the history of Pasco and Hernando Counties The Barnes and Brown families are both related to the follow pioneer families of Pasco and Hernando Counties: Strickland, Redbrook, Godwin, Leggett, Smith and Hill just to name a few. Reuben had two children the first was Martha Barnes Brown and the other was Vida Claire Barnes DePue...
In 1895 Florida land records show that William Barnes had owned the property at that time, his relation to Martha is not known at this time. In 1975 the property can be seen on The Florida Real Estate Atlas as being owned by Mrs. Martha B. Brown . The Brown Family owned several large tracts of land in this area at that time and they operated a family ranch which most of is still intact. The property was handed down to Martha from her decedents and this is the reason the property was always in her name instead of her husband's. This may also be the reason Martha was buried here and her husband was buried at the Oakside Cemetery in Zephyr Hills. The property still remains in their family and there are no other burials located in the family cemetery.
However it suspected that there may be other burials nearby the family's cemetery from an old turpentine still and community that was located nearby their property about 150 years ago. Although there has been no evidence of the community found at this time, in most cases when there was a small community there was usually a small community cemetery nearby. There are remains of the tram roads that can still be seen nearby. The last remaining remnants of the wooden bridges in Pasco County can be found along this network of tram roads. These are the only signs of a community's existence found. It is suspected that this turpentine still was in operation during the late 1800's or early 1900's. It's not known how large this operation was but due to the extensiveness of the network of tram roads it appears to have been large. The Brown Family Cemetery is maintained by the Brown Family and is visited frequently by them to make sure desecration has not occurred, since this is such a problem in Pasco County.
