This cemetery is located at 204 Cedar Lane in Nixa, Missouri. Over one hundred and sixty years ago the Chaffin family made their way from Maury Co, Tennessee to Missouri. Samuel Chaffin and his wife Elizabeth J.(McConnell) bought this land, farmed it and raised their children here. Most of the children and their spouses are buried in this cemetery as well as close friends of the family. One son James A. Chaffin served with the Missouri 16th Infantry in the Civil War, he and his wife Sarah McClure are also buried here. I want to say thank you to all the people who helped save our family cemetery from being destroyed. The late Ronald Bunch of Nixa and to Gene Shull Director of Preservation for the Grave Yard Preservation Society in Ozark, Missouri. And a special thank you to Jarom Peterson and his crew of 27 young men, who cleared brush and trees away in order to find the head stones. You all did a great job.
As of November 2023, the cemetery has obviously not been maintained for quite awhile. The sign on the gate says the cemetery "...is being maintained by the GraveYard Preservation Society." That non-profit Society was dissolved in 2012 according to state records. The phone number listed on the sign is a non-working number. The cemetery is not accessible by road. It is located approximately 360 feet (110 meters) west of the nearest postal address of 382 W Cedar St, Nixa, MO 65714. The cemetery is bounded by a woven wire fence approximately five feet tall in the form of a square 50 feet (15.25 meters) long on each side with a six and a half foot wide gate on the west side. There are several mature trees inside the fenced area and vines cover the ground as well as large sections of the fence.
