"Gershom Gard, born in New Jersey in 1734, was a soldier in the war, belonging to the classified militia. He came to this Country among the earliest pioneers and settled in Springfield Twp. on the North Bend Road about 1 mile west of the Cincinnati and Hamilton turnpike, where he died in 1805 (sic), and was buried in a lot on his own farm which he set apart for a burial ground and is known at the: Gard Graveyard", now a briar patch. It contains more than 200 graves, some of which contain the dust of men prominent in their generation. There is a plain stone at the grave of Mr. Gard, giving the date of his death and age. Phoebe, his wife, who died in 1812, in her 81st year is buried beside him. Capt. Ephriam Brown of the War of 1812, married Eunice Gard a daughter of Gershom Gard, who lived and died in old age on the same farm in Springfield Township.
