In his January 8, 1853 Last Will & Testament, David Lipe of the Town of Minden (Montgomery County Wills 9:336) set apart this small family burial ground from the 50 acres of land which he left as a legacy to this son William Lipe and his wife Bestsy, granddaughter of Captain Joseph House. In recent times efforts have been made to associate this graveyard with the Reformed German Church at Canajoharie located about one-half mile north in an attempt to justify the Fort Plain Museum's claim that the fortress known as Fort Plain was built upon this hill.
