In a death certificate in 1918 for Henrietta (Martin) Combs, it is stated she is buried in the Belton Cemetery. So one can conclude it was called the Belton Cemetery at one time, only to become the Combs Cemetery in the 1920's, according to the deed filed in Jonesborough,TN, the county seat.
There are three unmarked graves within the fenced area. One is an adult size grave, while the other two would seem to hold the remains of small stature individuals or children.
The land for the cemetery was purchased in 1920 by Everett Earl Combs. His older brother William J. Combs and William's wife, Margaret (Maggie) are buried there. Earl's wife, Lucy Rebecca Walker Combs, is buried in an unmarked grave, along with her father, John W. Walker, who died in 1933. Some maintenance is being provided since the grass is kept cut and trimmed.
In the spring of 2014 a Combs family descendent visited from Florida and made extensive repairs to the fence and cemetery property. He was able to learn of cemetery through work and information from the Watauga Historical Association and Family Seach.org. A neighbor of the cemetery has maintained the little cemetery for over 20 years out of respect for those who are interred there. She is not related to any of the family members.
