The church was built around the 13th century. Additions in the 13th and 14th century. Restoration of the church was done in 1872. It is the one of three churches in England to have a tower and a spire.

Surviving parish registers date from 1558 (Marriages and Burials)/1564 (Baptisms), with some gaps, particularly in the Civil War years, 1641-47.

It is currently an active church, but the churchyard cemetery no longer does burials.
