Additional information: In a 2003 survey John Clauser reported more than 250 grave sites were marked by fieldstones or indentions. The property owner has petitioned the county commissioners for permission to reinter the graves, and as of April 2005 the question was unresolved. From the St Bartholomews Episcopal Church Register, 1832-1903, Martha Hope Smith recorded eight persons who died while in the Poor House and were buried in the Poor House Cemetery.

The Chatham Record newspaper reported in 2003-2004 that the pauper's graveyard located at 163 Falcon's Way in Pittsboro, NC had no headstones. The owner of the property sought permission to reinter the graves.
