There are various denominational areas including: an aboriginal monument and interments recognising the original inhabitants of the area (the Gumbayngirr and Ngaku people); and main core religious group sections (Presbyterian, Anglican, Roman Catholic, Methodist). Within each section there are several large family groups located together, many of whom were European pioneers of the area from 1841 onwards. The Mackay/McKay columbarium at the entry to the cemetery contains over 60 memorial plaques, mostly relating to this family name or their relatives.
The headstones are reasonably legible though lichen is a problem due to the high rainfall of the region. The sections within the cemetery are distinguishable by gaps in interments and are labelled per denomination only. There are no row markings.
Bowraville is a small heritage town with a population of about 1500. It has many restored buildings featuring verandah covered footpaths, cultural and historic displays/information. Originally a timber milling area, this scenic region of the Nambucca Valley features farmland, mountain, National Parks and rainforests.
