Almost all burials in Bellevue/Bellview cemetery were re-interred in Nat Watkins Cemetery in 1968, and are in the wooded area to the left of Oak Grove Baptist Church; but some graves were re-interred in Section G of Evergreen Cemetery in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The cemetery was moved because of highway construction. Graves were also re-interred here from Happy Hill Cemetery.
This cemetery is not to be confused with Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, on the right side of the church.
.................................
On December 21,1966, Nat Watkins and his wife Carrie entered into an agreement with the North Carolina State Highway Commission to relocate graves that were in the right of way of US Highway 52. Most of the 600 graves in Bellevue/Bellview Cemetery, and 200 graves in Happy Hill Cemetery, were re-interred in Nat Watkins Cemetery, a project that was to be completed by December 31, 1968. This section of the cemetery has not been maintained, and is now an overgrown wooded area. Some stones have survived, but most are missing or damaged. There are at least 91 unknown graves in the woods, marked by funeral home markers.
The section of the cemetery that is directly behind the church is maintained and mowed. A number of the graves there have no permanent marker.
