The first settlers came from Somerset Co. Pennsylvania circa 1800. One of the first farmers in Vaughan, John Reaman, received the deed for Lot 15, Con. 2 in 1804. He and some of his family are buried in a plot on the farm. Michael Fisher built one of the first mills in Vaughan in 1816. The sawmill, flour and grist mills and a cooperage were carried on by the Cook family who came from England about 1833. There was a blacksmith shop 1/2 mile east of Bathurst Street. A store was built in 1844 and closed about 1920. Carrville Post Office was here 1865-1923. The first schools were held in homes and later in a schoolhouse 1846-1961. The first church services were in the homes and the first church building, which was a Methodist Church, was built at the N.E. corner of Carrville Road and Bathurst St. The present church and cemetery were located here in 1857.
