"Old Overisel Cemetery is the oldest of the Holland area Cemeteries. The land was given by Cornelius Voorhorst in 1848 - a portion of Section 18 to the west of his house. (This farm is still in possession of the family being a Michigan Centennial Farm.) It is no longer in use. The early stones were of a soft marble or lime stone and are so eroded that the full inscriptions could not be read. Many had the place of birth in the Netherlands but it was seldom that the letters could be brought out clearly enough to read, even with chalk or water. Many stones are broken or reset with but a portion of the inscription visible. Inscriptions were copied October 18, 1961 by Mrs. John VanDerMolen & Mrs.C.A. Monteith of Martin, Michigan. Copying was begun at the west side. There are very many unmarked graves. "
