The white people in Shady Grove moved to Milan Tennessee when the railroad came in 1859. So their section of the cemetery is in very bad shape with many broken tombstones laying up against trees. Few markers are standing. Burials continued in that section however by the 1870s most buried in Milan.
The African American section is just as old but burying is still active. Both cemeteries have multiple unmarked burials likely numbering over 100."
