"Porters Chapel is one of the oldest churches in Warren County. The Porter family, James and Mary, donated ther land in 1830 whe the original building was erected. In the beginning it was known as the "Community Meeting House." The building was used as a hospital during the Civil War and was also destroyed by the Union Troops in this same period of conflict. The second building was built in 1877 and was used as a school house. The third and present building, which is now used as an educational facility, was completed in 1910. The sanctuary was completed in 1965. The cemetery is also significant in the history of Porters Chapel Church. Many of the graves are of people who died during the Yellow Fever epidemic, and prior to the Civil War. The list of former pastors is a lesson in history itself, beginning with a blind preacher named Bole, who is buried in the cemetery at Porters Chapel Church."
(Note: we were not able to find the Bole grave site.)
Location: Off Halls Ferry road take POrters Cahpel Road for .3 mile, church on right side of road. The cemetery is located on left and right side of the road, S13 T15N R4E. Condition: good, well kept, still in use, Date recorded: December 1997, updated February 1998.
