This cemetery which is not readily accessible due to its location across Coon Creek and part way up a mountian side, is the burial place of the Dr. James Cole family.
He and his wife Louisa Leeper Cole and three children came by covered wagon in 1851 from Independence, Missouri by way of The Dalles and The Barlow Route to Southern Oregon.
Their little daughter died as they crossed the Platte River valley.
Dr. Cole was the first white man with a family to settle in the "Big Bottom" later changed to Coles Valley.
Information on the Coles Family can be read in a history written by Maude Baird Cole for the "Historic Douglas County, Oregon" Published 1982
