Cain's Chapel was founded in 1820 by Milton Cain. The original building was a log structure which was located several miles down Rt. 111, off of Hwy 143 north of Deatsville, and the original Mount Zion cemetery is still there. In 1838 the church congregation established a new chapel on the present site in Holtville, which has a broad creek behind it, and provided water for both people and horses. The first building was of unpainted wood, which gradually grew into this lovely white church with green shutters. This photo was taken around 1900 - 1910. This church building remained until 1949, when it was taken apart and used to build a new brick structure.

Construction on this part of Cain's Chapel was completed from 1949-1954. The first wedding to take place in the new chapel was on August 12, 1954. The steeple was added in 1975, much to the great delight and rejoicing of church members. A large new Worship Center was added in 2005-2010, and is back and to the right of this building. The cemetery is behind the church.
