Boston Mills-Cox Cemetery (1984 Photo) N.W of Galena, Lowell Township Cherokee County Kansas.

This cemetery is approximately 2 acres. It was founded by Abram McMullen, who homesteaded in 1870 and during his ownership set aside the land for a cemetery. He and his wife were apparently among the first to be buried there, according to census records. The head stones dated back to the 1870's with some broken that could not be read. The cemetery was closed ca. 1923. Some interments were moved to the new Clark's Hill Crest Cemetery in Galena and other cemeteries. When it was last read, 1980's, they found approximately 12 head stones remaining. There are fewer now.

Boston Mills-Cox Cemetery is off newly named highway 400 and 90th about 3 miles north of Riverton, Kansas. This old cemetery is located southwest of the old Gulf Chemical plant. It is south off Boston Mills Road just west of an old railroad track. It is unmarked and goes into a field and finally ends up at the wooded entrance which is still unmarked. The access through the field should only be used during dry weather.

Thanks to the Lowell Twp. Board, James & Betty Graves family. Finally the cemetery will receive some care. They gave it a good start, but it is now privately owned and it's condition is unknown.
