From 69 Hwy at Lawson, MO go east 3.9 miles on D Hwy. to C Hwy. Turn left (north) on C Hwy 4.7 miles to Elmira. At end of state highway maintenance go left one block, cross railroad bridge, turn left (west) onto James Street, turn right (north) onto Roberts Avenue, then turn (left) west onto Cemetery Road. Cemetery is on the south side of the road.
The cemetery is fenced and well maintained. It is divided in three sections by gravel driveways. Section 1 (aka James addition) is closest to the road; Section 2 (aka Childress addition) is in the center; and Section 3 is furthest from road. All three sections are still used for burials, the oldest burials are in Section 3.
From 1973 Ray County History:
The first graves were those of Thomas Crowley, October 1, 1902 and W. H. Newton, Co. C. 44, Mo., Inf. (no date). In 1935 an addition was added, known as the Childress addition and another in 1973 known as the James addition, making the cemetery about one and one-half acres. The cemetery is well kept through a perpetual care fund.
