Located five miles south of Lampasas and East of US Hwy. 183 off BCR No 228, a simple granite and stone marker on the old Samuel Alexander property locates this still-active cemetery near Mesquite Creek.

The oldest dated grave is that of John M. Alexander, Jr. who died in 1863. This John Alexander was a brother of Samuel Alexander, the patriarch of the family. Passed down through the years are legends associated with this cemetery, two in particular stand out – The first tells us that on or near the time of the death of one of Samuel's family a light would appear on Mesquite below the old house and travel up to the cemetery and stop. The next day, word would come of a death. The second tale is that at the house of Eliza Alexander Mullin, which was next door to the old home, footsteps could be heard coming toward the house. Then the gate would open and close and the steps would continue on up to the door but there was never anyone there. Soon a family death would be reported.

Special recognition goes to Daniel Griffin, who in 2009 undertook the project of acknowledging the prior unmarked graves of this cemetery by casting and having the stones engraved. These unmarked graves had been marked previously with native stones and several were known only by the age, sex, and or race of the person buried, for example "slave baby", "Mrs Allen", two "Hinkle Children" and others. All now rest peacefully beneath markers documenting their passing.
