Halifax LW246

Halifax LW246 of 158 Squadron, RAF Lissett crashed at 1600 hrs on 14th September 1943 near Mill Farm at Fordon, with the loss of all of the crew and two passengers who had been on board. The aircraft had been on a training exercise which involved fighter evasion manoeuvres including steep diving turns. It flew into cloud and was next seen falling with it's port outer wind missing. A subsequent enquiry established that the bolts holding the outer part of the wing had failed resulting in it falling off.The enquiry also found that the two passengers on board had not been authorised to be on the aircraft.
