Battle of Talladega

"After 20 minutes of obstinate fighting, the Indians were completely routed...Fifteen whites were killed on the field and 3 died from their wounds before they crossed Choccolocco on the return, and they sent back and buried them in the same pit...". The burial pit was on west side of the spring branch, approximately 300 yards southwest of Fort Leslie AKA "Fort Lashley" on property of Maj. James Isbell. A low field stone wall was built around it, with these stones later used in 1900 for the construction of the pyramid monument at Oak Hill Cemetery.
