Originally Hope Lutheran Cemetery was the cemetery for the Hope Lutheran Church, a country church located north of McLaughlin in Corson Co., S.D. The church building has been removed some years ago. The congregation originally met in the home of Johann "John" and Eva (Schock) Hertel until they were able to build and organize the church. In 1949, Hope Lutheran, St. Luke's Lutheran and one or two other country churches, joined together and built the Redeemer Lutheran Church in McLaughlin, S.D., dedicated in 1950. Today they use the Redeemer Lutheran Church Cemetery.
