7. Second H.L. Hunley Crew, CSA

The second crew of the CSA submarine H.L. Hunley. Eight crewmembers. On October 15, 1863, the H.L. Hunley sank for a second time while performing a routine diving exercise with all hands lost. After being raised for the second time, the HL Hunley later sank for the third and last time 4 miles off the coast of Sullivan's Island (Charleston), South Carolina, on February 17, 1864, after sinking the USS Housatonic. The USS Housatonic was the first ship ever to be sunk by a submarine and it's crew. The submarine was raised in the year 2000 and the third crew reinterred with the first 2 crews lost in earlier accidents, in Magnolia Cemetery, April 17, 2004.
