John Pollard Hittinger, Pearland TX. Descended from pioneers of Philipsburg, Montana (Ethel McVey) and Faulkton, South Dakota (Julia Bottom). These pioneer women married Navy officers during WWI - Ethel McVey, a Navy nurse, married Francis Hittinger, a Navy dentist. Julia Bottom married Willard Pollard, a Navy civil engineer. I grew up on or near Marine Corps bases, Quantico and Kaneohe the most memorable. My father, Lt Col Francis R Hittinger, Jr., was killed in Vietnam in 1968. My father and mother, and both sets of grandparents and an uncle are buried in Arlington Cemetery.
