Bio

We're the Pinkney Branch Committee of the Spearman Family (blessings upon them all) by the marriage of our ancestors John Pinkney & Luella Scurry Spearman originally from Newberry, South Carolina. We research and document family history through ongoing study of pedigree, family group charts, U.S. Census, and other public records, and through conferences and family events with our elders and next-generation family leaders.

John and Luella Pinkney were blessed with 12 children who all became part of the Great Black Migration north joining some 6 million African-Americans leaving the Dixiecrat south for greater opportunity, liberty, and security north and west. Because of our ancestors' courage, sacrifice, and vision, we live our lives today in an America much different than they experienced. They have allowed us to not only dream of a better tomorrow. We are the inheritors of their aspirations and that alone is sufficient for us to continue working to perfect the imperfect.

"Families are like branches on a great tree, we may grow in different directions yet our roots will always ground us --firmly in the richness of our past. We remain one."
