I began my quest when my dad Robert Hamilton Penland could not name the 46 members in the family photo taken outside of Asheville, NC in 1923. I see my dad as a baby just walking around 10 months of age, he knew his father's name Gay Harvey Penland and his mother Mazie Clark Penland. I joined the Penland Historical Society and a Robert Penland of Alaska was a historian, as well as Buford Penland and Norleen Penland. They helped me to identify most of the 46 ones in the picture. Charles Monroe Penland and Anna Marr were two pictured. This was gathering for either a wedding or funeral taking place.
