Bio

Family history is a passion and has been for over 30 years.

I am an Associate of AGRA (Association of Genealogists and Researchers in Archives) and also a Member of the Guild of One-Name Studies.

As a mathematician with a passion for history, genealogical problems are approached forensically and with an eye for detail. A logical approach means that all possible avenues are explored, considering and weighing up all evidence before drawing any conclusions.

Many branches of my family come from London and also from Ireland (Dublin and County Wicklow) but I have experience of genealogy research in archives all over the UK.

My family history includes a significant number of military ancestors. I am an experienced researcher of 19th Century and 20th Century military history and makes regular visits to the National Archives at Kew as well as to local archives across the country; I am also very interested in WW1 Battlefields, with family members buried in and commemorated at Commonwealth War Grave Commission cemeteries and memorials across Belgium and France.

I have worked as a secondary school maths teacher since 1989 and is a recently retired Deputy Head. I currently teach maths part time and is also a Lieutenant, Head of the Royal Navy Section, in our school's CCF Contingent.
