"Wela Hari"

Cancer warrior, living life, discovering my path...

Memento Mori (Latin: 'remember that you must die')

Fidei coticula crux ("The cross is the touchstone of faith")

"No child should die in the dawn of life." Danny Thomas

Deyr fé,
deyja frændur,
deyr sjálfur ið sama;
ek veit einn at aldri deyr,
dómr um dauðan hvern.
---Gestaþáttr number 77
Animals die,
friends die,
and thyself, too, shall die;
but one thing I know that never dies
the tales of the one who died.

I, too, am interested in tracing the paths of my ancestors. In doing so, it appears that I am descended from a great number of pioneers and successive early settlers whom had roles in building and fortifying the foundation of New England. I am proud of their service, their sacrifice and their patriotism. I admire their strength, mourn their losses and aspire to propagate the values they possessed.
I, with my husband, spend many hours walking through cemeteries, searching for loved ones, photographing stones and enjoying the Peace, beauty and history that these ancient grounds hold. Though we have had some success throughout various sites, it amazes me how often we return home finding few, if any, family members we were looking for that day. There are quite a lot of stones with familial names, but the person is not (yet) listed in my tree. Therefore, I photograph most stones with surnames I know to be in my tree and hope to make a connection someday.
