Bio

I am a chip off the old block genealogist, having taken it up from my father who studied the Speicher/Spiker/Spicher and other various spellings of the family name as well as other family lines. He was well known by other Speicher family searchers and would help anyone who would ask as will I. We lost Dad in Aug of 2019 and then Mom in May of 2020.

We, well, I, now have over 50,500 names in the tree mostly related to the Speicher and various spellings of the name.

I am a retired research librarian having worked in universities as well as the corporate world for an architectural/engineering firm, chemical company, law firm and a real estate investment firm. So researching comes naturally to me and it is my second love after my children and grandchildren. Obviously, I love them to the moon and back.

I volunteered extensively during my life while I could for Make-a-Wish Foundation, in various hospitals over the years, Deacon at Church, Lector at Church, Hospice of the Western Reserve, as a Hospital Chaplain and for my last job for 12 years I was responsible for all the companies charitable giving involving employees. My spiritual life has been a cornerstone to who I am inside and outwardly and in 2007 I took religious vows and continue to live in community doing the best I can to help others, even though I do have a disability.

My current project is going through newspapers.com month by month looking through every time the name Spiker occurs fixing any mistakes in it's listing, updating my tree, posting all birth, death, marriage announcement onto ancestry and updating FAG with the information that I find if it is missing on FAG and can verify it elsewhere. I started with 1900 and I'm in 1956. I check obituary on legacy by keyword every day for all the various spellings. I have also gone through all of the FAGs for the Speicher spelling and most of the Spiker spelling to update the tree and see if we were missing anything and updated FAG where the FAG site was incomplete. I finished going through all of the legacy newspapers seeking the various spellings of our name using the keyword search of obituaries and picked up many names of children and grandchildren I did not have, of course, cross referenced.

If you have any questions for me, please ask. I am happy to help anyone with their family searching questions.
