Bio

St Mellons Baptist Church (Caersalem) was registered as a place of worship in 1830, when a small chapel was built on a plot of land that had been originally purchased by local Baptists as a burial ground.

In 1884 a new (bigger) chapel was built further up the road, and the original chapel was then demolished and the whole site is now a burial ground.

There are over 100 graves in our cemetery. In 2003 work was carried out to convert the graveyard into a Garden of Remembrance, because many of the gravestones were unsafe. Where possible the gravestones have been re-positioned around the walls of the cemetery.
Plot numbers have a Letter:Number reference based on where they were buried. Where the gravestones have been re-positioned their location is given a Number on either the North, East or South wall of the cemetery, either secured to the wall or laid flat on the ground. The numbers work in a clockwise direction from the north-west corner of the graveyard around to the south-west corner.
