Bio

Born in and raised just outside Richmond, Virginia in then-bucolic Varina. Christened James Edward Mahone.

Other than of my young adult years living in West Virginia, Colorado, and Pennsylvania, spent my life in metro Richmond until August 2014, when I skipped that town for good and resurfaced in Upcountry South Carolina, right across the lake from Clemson (where they play a bit of football, as you may have heard).

Love hearing from folks, especially in pursuit of my complete paternal lineage to Ireland, much of which already found by Andy and Beverly.

Attention, Mahones! Years ago, I bought a first edition of "William Mahone of Virginia, soldier and political insurgent, by Nelson Morehouse Blake, PhD," published in 1935. Long thought that was its only printing. Lo and behold, Amazon released a leather-bound second printing on January 1, 2021. This book is a heavy read, with countless references to people and events perhaps remembered in 1935, yet alien to most contemporary readers ... except true history buffs. If you're a genuine bookaholic ... as am I ... this would look handsome on your bookshelf.
