Bio

My name is John David Alderman. I am the fourth child of Gerald "Jerry" H. Alderman and Dorothy V. (Vernon) Alderman. I have three brothers; Wade, Paul, and Edward. My parents, with the help of my uncle Wayne Alderman, built the family business in Lennon, Michigan, USA. Originally called "Jerry's Garage" the business originated in 1946 as a "White Rose" gas station and a general repair garage. First taking on the "Minneapolis Moline" farm equipment line and then "International Harvester" trucks and farm equipment, the business has grown over the years into "Aldermans Inc". Today it is one of the largest single location dealerships in Michigan selling and servicing, among others, CaseIH, Kubota, Kinze, Kuhn-Knight, Cub Cadet, and Woods equipment lines. I was raised in Lennon, MI and graduated from Durand Area High School in 1972. I continued my education at University of Michigan-Flint and took cross courses at Mott Community College. I joined the family business officially in 1974 and have left in 2015 after 41 years of service. I was fortunate enough to inherited the Charles E. Vernon (sesquicentennial) farm located at 11186 Easton Rd, New Lothrop, MI. Both of my parents families came to the United States from Canada and settled east of New Lothrop in an area known as "The English Settlement". Many families from the same origins in England made their way through Canada and settled together in this area to start new lives in America alongside people with which they were familiar. Interestingly, my Father's Mother was born and raised in a house in Genesee County on M-13 near the corner of Easton Road and my Mother was born in the farm house directly across the road in Shiawassee County. My parents never lived on the C. E. Vernon farm but I lived there for 30 years before moving in 2013 to Flint, MI. I'm relatively new to Find-A-Grave and would welcome any help offered as I try to record my families history for future generations. (Entered Jan 2017)
