My mother started genealogical research on both sides of my family in the early 60s. I stored her all her research away after she passed in 1995, and resurrected it after a family reunion in the early 2000s. It was all paper-based back then, but I've gotten in all entered (with the help of some GEDCOM imports from helpful distant relatives) and now have about 5900 entries.
